About the position

The Payroll Operations Manager at Leidos will lead the US payroll operations team, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for approximately 40,000 employees. This role involves managing a team of payroll professionals, overseeing payroll-related tasks, and collaborating with HR operations. The manager will also focus on streamlining processes, compliance, and team development while handling complex payroll situations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of seven payroll professionals to ensure accurate and timely payroll execution.
  • Drive a culture of service excellence within the payroll team.
  • Review daily work performance of direct reports and address gaps as needed.
  • Evaluate and implement approved changes in payroll processing and Costpoint matters.
  • Provide guidance on high-risk payroll issues and discrepancies.
  • Monitor payroll processing metrics and manage team performance against these metrics.
  • Ensure accurate payroll processing, reconciliation, and recordkeeping for multi-state payroll.
  • Oversee payroll reporting processes and develop action plans to mitigate operational risks.
  • Collaborate with HR Operations teams to support onboarding and payroll needs.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for high-risk payroll questions/issues.
  • Oversee the overpayment process and ensure compliance with laws.
  • Support SOX and compliance audits, including pre-audit and post-audit activities.
  • Provide ongoing support, training, and mentoring to staff.

Requirements

  • High school/GED Degree.
  • Minimum ten years of payroll experience.
  • Proficiency with payroll data analytics.
  • Previous experience managing staff, including performance management.
  • Proficiency with vendor systems such as UKG, Business Intelligence Reports, and Deltek (Costpoint).
  • Knowledge of applicable federal laws and regulations related to government contracting.
  • Ability to coordinate with internal and external business partners.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, Human Resources or related field.
  • CPP or an alternative payroll certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
