About the position

Meyers Nave is seeking a full-time Payroll/Retirement Benefits Specialist to join their accounting team in Oakland, CA. This nonexempt position is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing and the seamless administration of the firm's 401(K)/profit sharing plans under the direction of the Accounting Manager. The role requires a thorough understanding of payroll practices, retirement benefits, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-monthly payroll and out of cycle payroll using Ceridian Dayforce.
  • Process wage garnishments, pay levies, and other involuntary court-ordered payments in a timely manner.
  • Assist employees with general payroll process questions.
  • Review timesheets for correctness before payroll transactions.
  • Update and maintain employee records and process termination checks.
  • Maintain accurate records of payroll documentation and transactions.
  • Resolve discrepancies with payroll and/or benefit information and documentation.
  • Respond to payroll-related inquiries and resolve concerns.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with internal control protocols.
  • Provide monthly payroll reports to the Accounting Manager and CFO.
  • Conduct retirement and benefits-related calculations and analysis.
  • Acquire and distribute relevant information and documentation to plan participants and beneficiaries.
  • Develop and maintain records of participants and beneficiaries.
  • Serve as a liaison between beneficiaries and participants and the plan administrator.
  • Coordinate with actuaries, plan administrators, accountants, and other professionals for data administration.
  • Ensure retirement plans are administered in accordance with guidelines and regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal and regulatory changes affecting retirement benefits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years related work experience in payroll, retirement, insurance benefits, financial planning, or actuarial services required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly explain retirement plan options.
  • Thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and agency interpretations related to retirement benefits.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Working knowledge of California HR laws pertaining to payroll and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of basic payroll practices and accounting principles.
  • Experience working with payroll software (e.g. Dayforce, UKG, ADP).
  • Good analytical, problem solving, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong business ethics and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data.
  • Ability to work autonomously and independently while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
