About the position

At Crowe, the Payroll Senior Tax Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the operations of the payroll team by applying extensive knowledge of payroll taxes, including federal, state, local, and paid family leave, to ensure compliance. This position is integral to maintaining the integrity of payroll processes and ensuring that all tax-related matters are handled efficiently and accurately. The specialist will be responsible for processing payroll tax adjustments, communicating with employees regarding payroll tax issues, and reconciling payroll taxes post-processing. Additionally, the role involves performing routine payroll tax audits to identify any noncompliance and applying necessary corrections to maintain compliance with tax regulations. The Payroll Senior Tax Specialist will assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual tax filings, monitor amended tax filings, and correspond with tax agencies and ADP to resolve any agency notices. Researching and registering for payroll tax accounts with governmental agencies is also a key responsibility. The specialist will provide backup support to other payroll team members and maintain a high degree of professional standards and confidentiality with payroll data. Participation in special projects and other duties as assigned will also be part of the role, contributing to the overall success of the payroll team and the firm. Responsibilities

  • Process payroll tax adjustments to employee records as needed
  • Communicate with employees on payroll tax matters
  • Reconcile payroll taxes post processing
  • Perform routine payroll tax audits to identify noncompliance and apply corrections

Requirements

  • 3+ years' experience working in multi-state payroll
  • Experience with payroll tax returns
  • Experience working with ADP
  • Experience with Workday a plus
  • Experience with tax account setups
  • Confident working with highly sensitive/confidential information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to follow issues through to resolution
  • FPC a plus
