About the position

This position serves as the Payroll Services Assistant Manager for the Statewide Payroll Services section under the direction of the Payroll Services Manager. It is responsible for providing advanced human resources support to the Department of Health, Department of Family and Community Services, and the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. The Payroll Services Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in managing two teams of payroll services staff, establishing statewide payroll standards and processes, and investigating formal grievances and complaints concerning payroll disputes. Additionally, this role involves acting as the Payroll Services Manager as needed in their absence, ensuring continuity and efficiency in payroll operations. The Department of Administration, Division of Finance is dedicated to providing the highest quality accounting, payroll, and travel services for the State of Alaska. As part of a small, welcoming community of accountants, analysts, technicians, and payroll specialists, the Payroll Services Assistant Manager will conduct the State's financial business with integrity, accountability, and a spirit of continuous improvement. This position is part of the leadership team within the Statewide Payroll Services section, which is currently undergoing a comprehensive restructuring to redefine their work culture, values, and operational efficiency.
