The Payroll Specialist 1 or 2 position at the Georgia Department of Public Health involves performing essential payroll and accounting duties to support the West Central Health District. Responsibilities

• Perform accounting and payroll duties for all counties of West Central Health District, including payroll preparation and posting.
• Enter, process, and transmit payroll data.
• Compute and reconcile balances, making necessary corrections.
• Advise employees or retirees on tax withholding options and payroll-related laws.
• Process and administer third-party requests such as garnishments and child support wage assignments.
• Ensure compliance of payroll with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Maintain payroll records and provide information based on regulations and confidentiality requirements.
• Work with third-party payroll companies or internal accounting offices to resolve payment issues and reconcile payroll-related accounts.

Requirements

• Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university OR two years of payroll/accounting job-related experience for Payroll Specialist 1.
• Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university OR two years of payroll/accounting job-related experience OR four years of payroll or accounting job-related experience OR one year of experience at the lower-level Payroll Specialist 1 for Payroll Specialist 2.
