About the position

The Payroll Specialist 4 position at Chipton-Ross is a contract/hybrid role responsible for ensuring compliance with payroll systems, processes, and corporate policies. The role involves managing vendors, conducting audits, and implementing process improvements through data analytics. The specialist will also provide training and mentorship to payroll staff while coordinating with various departments to resolve complex payroll issues.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure payroll system compliance with corporate policies and regulations.
  • Manage and direct vendors and audits related to payroll activities.
  • Implement process improvements and cost optimization through data analytics.
  • Provide cross-functional communication to resolve complex payroll issues with various stakeholders.
  • Train and mentor payroll specialists.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ten or more years of relevant payroll experience.
  • Recent hands-on experience with SAP ECC/CATS and S4 HANA.
  • Proven experience in payroll administration, including complex calculations and analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, and labor laws.
  • Experience with Social Security Administration (SSA), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and state/local taxation rules.
  • Proficiency in advanced payroll software and HRIS systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience interacting with internal and external auditors.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in payroll calculations.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with process improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to adapt to changing payroll regulations and technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
  • Professional certification in payroll administration (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional, Fundamental Payroll Certification).
