About the position

We are looking to add an enthusiastic team member to our downtown Cleveland office. The Payroll Specialist/Bookkeeper will play a crucial role in our financial operations, focusing on payroll processing, bookkeeping, and the generation of multiple tax reports. The ideal candidate will be fluent in calculating and processing payroll and related payments, preparing monthly bank reconciliations, data entry, and basic bookkeeping. A background in the preparation of business and personal tax returns is preferred, as this role will also involve assisting with tax return preparation and compilation. General responsibilities will include answering phones, assisting with client needs, and performing basic office functions. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Verifying, preparing and inputting payroll data into our software to generate accurate and timely payments to employees.
  • Issuing employee paychecks.
  • Preparing and entering journal entries.
  • Sending and reconciling payments to appropriate tax agencies and liabilities.
  • Preparing government forms and issuing W-2's and 1099's.
  • Entering client financial data into accounting software.
  • Processing bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Preparing financial statements for review.
  • Participating in tax return preparation and compilation.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Accounting or related field (Required).
  • 1 year of payroll experience (Preferred).
  • 1 year of accounting experience (Preferred).
  • Work experience with payroll calculations and submissions.
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping procedures.
  • Familiarity with finance regulations.
  • Good math skills and the ability to spot numerical errors.
  • Hands-on experience with MS Excel and accounting software.
  • Organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
