About the position

The Payroll Specialist is a contract role lasting 2 to 3 months, primarily focused on supporting the payroll functions of the organization. This position is crucial in ensuring that payroll is processed accurately and on time, adhering to all applicable laws and regulations. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for analyzing, preparing, and inputting payroll data for multiple company codes across various states. This role requires collaboration with benefits, HR, and Payroll Lead to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements. In addition to processing payroll, the Payroll Specialist will address routine employee inquiries regarding paycheck issues, comply with internal payroll policies, and handle payroll-related audit requests. The role also involves supporting configuration changes in the ADP Payroll system and working closely with accounting, benefits, and human resources teams. A strong background in processing final pay in states such as California, Oregon, and New York is essential, as is experience with third-party payroll services like ADP. The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma and have at least 5 years of payroll or finance experience, with a strong emphasis on US multi-state payroll. Familiarity with ADP Payroll is highly recommended, and experience in the healthcare sector is preferred. The position is remote, allowing for flexibility while maintaining a focus on accuracy and compliance in payroll processing.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing, preparing, and inputting payroll data for multiple company codes in multiple states.
  • Supporting benefits, HR, and Payroll Lead with compliance to federal, state, and local payroll laws, tax, and reporting requirements.
  • Researching and resolving routine employee paycheck related questions.
  • Complying with all internal payroll policies and procedures.
  • Processing payroll related audit requests.
  • Supporting configuration changes in the ADP Payroll system.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of payroll or finance experience.
  • Experience with US multi-state payroll is required.
  • Experience with ADP Payroll is highly recommended and preferred.
  • Experience working at a healthcare company.
  • Attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of multi-state payroll and taxes at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Knowledge of labor and tax laws related to payroll.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
