The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll for our employees, with a focus on compliance with industry-specific regulations such as prevailing wage, the Davis-Bacon Act, and state-specific requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience in the solar or renewable energy industry and a strong understanding of the unique payroll challenges faced in this sector. The Payroll Specialist will process weekly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role will administer payroll for projects under prevailing wage laws, including the Davis-Bacon Act, and ensure compliance with the Inflation Reduction Act. Collaboration with HR and project management teams will be essential to maintain accurate employee records, including time and attendance, deductions, and tax withholdings. The specialist will also ensure accurate reporting and payment of payroll taxes, manage garnishments, wage assignments, and other payroll deductions, and prepare and file required payroll reports, including certified payroll for public works projects. Responding to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and tax issues will also be a key responsibility, along with assisting in audits to ensure all payroll processes meet regulatory standards. Staying up-to-date with industry trends and changes in payroll laws affecting the renewable energy sector is crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in payroll processing, preferably in the EPC or renewable energy industry.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll software and systems.
  • Experience with prevailing wage payroll, the Davis-Bacon Act, and certified payroll reporting.
  • Understanding of solar industry regulations, including NYSERDA and other state-specific requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Technologically savvy.
  • Unrestricted work authorization for the United States and strong English written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with multi-state payroll processing.
  • Familiarity with the Inflation Reduction Act and its impact on payroll and employee benefits.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
  • LCP Tracker and Paylocity experience.
  • General HR knowledge/support capability (benefits, recordkeeping etc.)
