About the position

The Financial Services Division within the Department of Ecology is seeking a Payroll Specialist (Fiscal Analyst 2) to join our team in Lacey, WA. This full-time position plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll and benefits processing for Ecology employees. As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for processing payroll actions for approximately 700 employees, adhering to strict payroll deadlines set by the Office of Financial Management (OFM), which occur twice a month. You will collaborate closely with Human Resources and various Ecology programs to ensure that all necessary documents are distributed and returned in a timely manner. In this role, you will gain valuable experience using the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) for payroll processing, as well as Ecology's time, leave, and attendance system (eTime) and Benefits 24/7 for benefits processing. The position offers flexibility, allowing for up to an 80% telework schedule, with the requirement to work in the office at least one day per week and additional days as needed. Responsibilities

  • Process payroll actions for approximately 700 employees.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll and benefits processing.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and Ecology programs to manage payroll documentation.
  • Utilize the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) for payroll processing.
  • Manage Ecology's time, leave, and attendance system (eTime).
  • Handle benefits processing through Benefits 24/7.
  • Provide customer service related to payroll and benefits inquiries.
  • Prepare miscellaneous reports as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a financial related field or any degree with 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing, or budgeting.
  • Two years of experience in accounting, auditing, or budgeting.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to create, edit, modify, save, and delete documents and spreadsheets.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years of accounting, bookkeeping, or payroll experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with HRMS or comparable payroll/HR system.
  • Intermediate proficiency with agency standard software applications and payroll and time accounting systems.
