About the position

The Payroll Specialist/HR Generalist is responsible for overseeing payroll administration for the entire company while assisting HR leaders in aligning business objectives with employees and management. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with significant knowledge of payroll administration and general HR practices, including compliance with state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and possess a proactive work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all tasks necessary for multi-state payroll processing objectives.
  • Maintain relationships with external auditors and state and federal agencies.
  • Update and maintain employee information in HRIS.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports for management and ad-hoc reports as requested.
  • Input weekly hours and void checks/manual checks as required during bi-weekly activities.
  • Export payroll from time management system and import into HRIS.
  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll budget analysis (Actual vs. Budget) ensuring proper employee classification.
  • Maintain current knowledge of multi-state and federal wage and hour laws, HR trends, and best practices.
  • Facilitate management and employee understanding of payroll procedures.
  • Address employee questions regarding payroll, deductions, and general HR inquiries.
  • Process expense reimbursements, wage garnishments & levies, benefits deductions, and 401(k) contributions.
  • Administer and execute human resource programs including benefits, recognition, occupational health and safety, and training.
  • Audit data for accuracy and partner with end users or HR for resolution.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Payroll and HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee records.

Requirements

  • Self-motivated, independent, forward-thinker.
  • Experience with both W2 and 1099 forms.
  • Superb organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • High familiarity with 401(k) administration, processing, and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • At least 3 years of multi-state payroll experience and related software programs.
  • At least 3 years of HR experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of additional work experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with acquisitions (onboarding large groups).
  • Experience with system implementations.
