About the position

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) is seeking a Human Resources Specialist to serve as a Payroll Specialist. This role is crucial for processing payroll transactions and providing professional assistance to HR staff and agency managers. The position requires handling confidential payroll information and adhering to payroll-related rules and procedures, all while working in a dynamic environment that presents new challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Payroll Coordinator, providing technical support regarding statewide payroll policies and procedures.
  • Perform complex, specialized professional duties related to payroll transactions, benefits, and timekeeping functions.
  • Compile and prepare payroll reports.
  • Conduct periodic audits of payroll records for accuracy and compliance.
  • Act as backup coordinator for timekeeping and benefits as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of four (4) years of college education.
  • Two (2) years of professional human resources experience.
  • One (1) year of professional payroll experience for a state, federal, or private entity.
  • One (1) year of experience with state or federal statutes related to personnel transactions.

Nice-to-haves

  • One (1) year of professional experience independently processing payroll transactions.
  • One (1) year of professional experience working in a state or federal government office.
  • One (1) year of professional experience handling confidential information.
