About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Mission Edge is a part-time role focused on providing payroll services to internal employees and clients in the nonprofit sector. This position is essential for ensuring accurate payroll processing and compliance with federal and state laws, while also contributing to a positive work environment. The role requires a strong commitment to customer service and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll and related support, including time off tracking and timesheet review.
• Collect, verify, and record employee attendance, including hours worked.
• Compute wages, commissions, and deductions as applicable.
• Compute and process final pay in accordance with state and federal law.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, including remittance of payroll taxes and required withholdings.
• Process and monitor garnishment orders, wage orders, or levies.
• Handle employee complaints about incorrect payments and resolve discrepancies.

Requirements

• 7-10 years of progressive payroll experience.
• Working knowledge of federal and state payroll and tax laws, wage and hour laws, and employee benefits laws.
• Strong experience using Microsoft Office, Google Drives, Gmail, and various payroll and HRIS software such as ADP Run, Paylocity, Paychex, Gusto, Rippling, Paycom, and Paycor.
• Excellent customer service skills and a strong work ethic.
• Proven clerical skills, including being highly organized and detail-oriented.
• Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of HR-related and payroll information.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in the nonprofit sector.
• Familiarity with project management software such as Monday.com and Basecamp.
