About the position

The Payroll Specialist plays a crucial role in managing payroll processes and ensuring the quality of payroll services provided. This position operates with minimal supervision and is responsible for handling complex payroll tasks, resolving employee inquiries, and supporting team initiatives. The role requires a strong understanding of payroll systems and compliance with relevant laws and regulations, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll function.

Responsibilities

  • Support assigned system and process transactions for monthly payrolls following established process flows.
  • Process assigned tickets meeting the Service Level Agreement requirements.
  • Work within established deadlines and schedules.
  • Collaborate with team members on established projects and initiatives.
  • Perform complex tasks in support of the team manager and area projects as assigned.
  • Prepare manual pay calculations and reworks.
  • Resolve and respond directly to employee inquiries and transactions regarding pay and benefits.
  • Review work of more junior payroll specialists.
  • Coach and train more junior payroll specialists.
  • Authorize payments via banking payment systems.
  • Assess risk when making business decisions, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years relevant experience in payroll or data analysis
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Microsoft Office Suite knowledge (especially Excel)
  • High School diploma or equivalent
