About the position

The Payroll Specialist II at the Texas Workforce Commission is responsible for performing moderately complex payroll processing tasks under moderate supervision. This role involves ensuring accurate payroll processing, maintaining payroll controls, and addressing payroll-related inquiries. The position is essential for supporting the agency's mission to promote economic prosperity through effective workforce management.

Responsibilities

  • Process and review personnel action forms for accuracy and calculate payments.
  • Verify automated and manual employee payrolls in compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Enter, update, and retrieve information from various payroll systems.
  • Maintain payroll processing controls and assist with deductions and direct deposits.
  • Distribute paychecks and statements of earnings and deductions.
  • Answer questions and resolve payroll-related issues.
  • Prepare written desk procedures on payroll system changes.

Requirements

  • One year of full-time experience in payroll processing work.
  • Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • 18 to 24 months experience with auditing and administrative duties.
  • 18 to 24 months experience using accounting or payroll software.
  • 18 to 24 months experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and SharePoint.
  • 18 to 24 months experience handling confidential data.
  • 18 to 24 months experience providing customer service.
