About the position

The Payroll Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the payroll processing activities of a local nonprofit organization. This position is designed for a compassionate and detail-oriented individual who is eager to contribute to mission-driven work that positively impacts the community. The role is hybrid, requiring 2-3 days a week onsite in Portland, Oregon, and offers an inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support semi-monthly payroll processing activities.
  • Review timesheets for accuracy.
  • Respond to employees and external vendors regarding payroll inquiries and issues.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant employee records.
  • Assist with open enrollment processes, new hire setup, benefit reconciliations, payments, and reports.
  • Perform ad-hoc administrative tasks to support HR functions.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of payroll experience.
  • Knowledge of current labor laws and related regulations.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and payroll software; Kronos and/or UKG experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite including intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task.
