About the position

The Payroll Specialist position at Grant County PUD is responsible for managing the payroll accounting system to ensure accurate computation and processing of the District's biweekly payroll. This role involves gathering and validating employee timesheet data, computing wages and deductions, and ensuring compliance with payroll laws. The position also includes maintaining payroll documentation, updating employee records, and performing reconciliations of payroll accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and input all required payroll data, including timesheets and tax filing documents.
  • Review and verify employee work hours and payments through the payroll system.
  • Audit payroll files to verify amounts, deductions, benefits, and special considerations.
  • Reconcile account transactional reports with account balances.
  • Document approvals and validations to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Assist with processing and reporting state and federal payroll taxes, including 941's, W-2's, and W3.
  • Reconcile payroll and benefit liabilities, such as medical premiums and retirement plans.
  • Serve as a resource for payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
  • Create, maintain, and secure employee payroll records per retention policy.
  • Apply relevant state, federal, and agency policies affecting payroll and benefits.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in payroll, accounting, utility, or related experience for Payroll Specialist I.
  • 3-4 years of experience in payroll, accounting, utility, or related experience for Payroll Specialist II.
  • Associate's degree (AA/AAS) or an additional year of experience in lieu of degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using HRIS, UKG, or other similar payroll systems.
  • Experience in the public sector.
