About the position

The Payroll Specialist I at Cupertino Electric, Inc. is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for both union and office employees. This role involves maintaining electronic employee files, entering timecard data, and ensuring compliance with payroll regulations. The specialist will also troubleshoot payroll issues and coordinate with project teams to resolve discrepancies, making it a critical position within the Finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Process all union and office payroll accurately on a weekly basis.
  • Maintain electronic employee files and enter timecard data into the JDE system.
  • Print and distribute weekly payroll checks.
  • Set up and maintain logs of all garnishments and tax levies, remitting payments to respective agencies.
  • Review garnishment notices and process withholdings as authorized.
  • Troubleshoot payroll issues, including stop payments on lost checks and correcting wage rates.
  • Complete verification of employment forms for union employees.
  • Coordinate with the Union Reporting Specialist for current wage and benefit rates.
  • Process lay-off checks for terminations.
  • Prepare EDD Audit Reports, researching employment dates and compensation information.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of certified payroll experience preferred.
  • Experience in construction payroll preferred.
  • Substantial understanding of payroll processes and regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with multi-state and local tax jurisdictions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
