About the position

Walker Healthforce is seeking a Payroll Specialist II for a healthcare client located in Detroit, MI. This is a contract opportunity that requires a detail-oriented individual to manage various payroll functions effectively. The Payroll Specialist II will be responsible for performing online edits and corrections in the PeopleSoft payroll system, ensuring accuracy in payroll processing. This role involves calculating and auditing special check requests from different departments, processing internal adjustments for employees by analyzing payroll data, and conducting detailed corrections of exception time report edits in PeopleSoft. In addition, the Payroll Specialist II will review and validate Kronos schedules, addressing any timecard discrepancies that may arise. Effective communication with employees and management regarding paycheck concerns is crucial, as is the ability to process and send garnishment checks with legal responsibility statements. The role also includes preparing stop payment and voided checks for reversal and reissue, managing deductions from employee paychecks such as union dues and pharmacy costs, and calculating and adjusting overpayments from employees' paychecks. The specialist will need to interpret and apply relevant codes, rules, and regulations in payroll transactions while collaborating with the Payroll Analyst and Accounting for accurate ledger allocations.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Prior analyst experience
  • Experience with timecards, Kronos, ADP, PeopleSoft
  • Experience with union contracts
  • Experience with garnishments
  • Strong background in HR
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications (Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in payroll, benefits, tax, or accounting
  • Knowledge of how to complete comparison analysis and troubleshoot
