About the position

CORE Electric Cooperative is seeking a Payroll Specialist II to join their accounting team in Sedalia, CO. This role is responsible for accurately processing payroll for all employees while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in payroll processing software. This is an exempt, onsite position reporting to the Finance Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and verify timekeeping information for all employees.
  • Review and verify payroll data before processing to ensure accuracy.
  • Process employee wages, including special payments such as bonuses, commissions, and benefits.
  • Address any discrepancies in payroll and resolve issues promptly.
  • Process Union Dues, Wage Garnishments, and Benefits (HSA, FSA, 401-k).
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Stay updated with changes in payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and file payroll tax returns accurately and on time.
  • Respond to inquiries from tax authorities and auditors regarding payroll matters.
  • Maintain accurate records of employee wages, deductions, and hours worked.
  • Generate payroll reports for management and other stakeholders.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Calculate Hours and Labor Analysis including Labor distributions.
  • Prepare year-end payroll reports, including W-2 forms for employees and retirees.
  • Analyze payroll-related variances, such as actuals versus budget at the general ledger level.
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees regarding payroll-related inquiries.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a business-related field or equivalent; bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Dayforce HCM Software is a plus.

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
