About the position

BMWC Constructors, Inc. is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team in Lebanon, IN. As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a crucial role in processing payroll for specific construction projects, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all payroll-related tasks. Reporting to an experienced Project Manager and receiving guidance from an Accounting Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the company's growth and profitability while building strong relationships with both internal teams and external customers. In this role, you will be responsible for entering, correcting, verifying, and transmitting weekly payroll information into payroll systems. You will review timesheet inputs for accuracy, manage garnishments, facilitate payroll adjustments, and maintain records related to employee accruals. Additionally, you will handle the computation of lay-off checks, ensure the accuracy of manual check advice, and maintain a solid understanding of union contract requirements and payroll tax laws. Your role will also involve heavy communication with the accounting team and project personnel, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. Embracing technological innovations and continuously seeking to improve processes will be key aspects of your position, along with performing other work-related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Enter, correct, verify, and transmit weekly payroll information into payroll systems.
  • Review timesheet input to ensure accuracy of data, including necessary edits to batch.
  • Manage court-ordered and tax-levied garnishments appropriately and keep employees informed.
  • Facilitate adjustments and changes to payroll as necessary.
  • Sort and distribute payroll checks to supervision.
  • Process manual checks as necessary.
  • Maintain records with accrual information related to vacation and supplemental time.
  • Manage the computation of lay-off checks as requested from the field.
  • Ensure termination sheets are received and delivered to the appropriate union.
  • Assure accuracy of manual check advice and that terminated employees are removed from timesheets.
  • Be responsible for craft verification of employment and facilitate questions and answers.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of union contract requirements and applicable payroll tax laws.
  • Update employee log daily for gathering craft time from craft supervision.
  • Compile payroll data for all craft employees including regular hours, OT hours, and DT hours.
  • Audit timesheets for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform accurate and timely data entry into designated systems.
  • Timely update of reports and maintain essential documentation within document imaging systems.
  • Communicate with the accounting team and project personnel including Project Managers and Craft Supervision.
  • Embrace technological innovations and seek to improve processes and best practices.
  • Report any observations of noncompliance with company policies or illegal actions that place personnel and the company at risk.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in accounting or business administration.
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in an accounting role.
  • Professional experience working with payroll processing and administration.
  • Previous work experience in the construction industry; union trade experience is a plus.
  • Expert knowledge of payroll tax laws.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a constantly changing environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and advanced computer skills; technical aptitude to learn internal systems.
