The Payroll Specialist position at the Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller involves processing payroll for nearly 8,000 employees. The role requires a self-starter who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and is capable of handling various payroll activities, including audits, adjustments, and compliance with regulations. This position offers a hybrid work model after an initial onsite training period.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular processing of payroll activities, including audits and maintenance of payroll and new hire data.
• Prepare, process, and audit adjustments such as benefits deductions, garnishments, and manual checks in accordance with policy and laws.
• Utilize automated business management systems for payroll actions, including setting up deductions and processing separations.
• Conduct pre-auditing of payroll data and review payroll registers for accuracy and compliance.
• Assist management with training and validating the automated payroll system, and resolve payroll accounting discrepancies.
• Review documentation and reports for accuracy and enter data into payroll/human resources systems.
• Respond to payroll inquiries and provide resolution information or direction as needed.
• Maintain current knowledge of payroll policies and procedures, and provide cross-training assistance to other employees.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Five years of recent and relevant payroll experience.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Good problem-solving and time management skills.
