About the position

The Payroll Specialist position at our construction company is a critical role that involves managing the payroll department's daily operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all payroll transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner. This includes reconciling payroll prior to transmission and validating confirmed reports to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. The Payroll Specialist will also need to understand the proper taxation of employer-paid benefits and process garnishment calculations while ensuring compliance with relevant laws. In addition to daily payroll operations, the Payroll Specialist will handle year-end reporting, including W-2 and W-2c forms, and develop ad hoc financial and operational reports as needed. The role requires processing manual checks and managing relocation metrics, as well as updating and reconciling monthly bank statements from ADP. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll best practices and the ability to work with various payroll systems, including e-Time, Kronos, ADP PCPW, Payforce, and Query. This position demands a high degree of professionalism and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential material. Strong interpersonal communication skills are essential, as the Payroll Specialist will need to interact with various levels of management and provide support in decision-making and problem-solving. Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively are also crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily payroll department operations
  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports
  • Understand proper taxation of employer paid benefits
  • Process correct garnishment calculations and compliance
  • Perform compliances for unclaimed property payroll checks
  • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary (W-2, W-2c, etc)
  • Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed
  • Process manual check and relocation metrics
  • Update and reconcile monthly bank statements from ADP
  • Load import files received from HR

Requirements

  • Construction industry experience required
  • Minimum 4-6 years experience processing multi-state payroll
  • Experience with Union and Non-Union payroll
  • Experience with prevailing wage / certifiable payroll
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations
  • Strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel
  • Working knowledge of e-Time and Kronos, ADP PCPW, Payforce, and Query
  • Strong work ethic and team player
  • High degree of professionalism
  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of management
