About the position

The Payroll Specialist is a critical role within the Thomas Watson Group, responsible for the day-to-day administration of payroll processes for approximately 1700 hourly and salary employees. This position serves as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and is tasked with ensuring the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll. The Payroll Specialist will handle various payroll functions, including the administration of new hires, timesheets, payroll changes, and terminations. This role requires a meticulous approach to collecting and entering payroll data into administrative databases and software programs, as well as calculating wages, benefits, and tax deductions. In addition to processing paychecks and deposits, the Payroll Specialist will maintain accurate records of payroll documentation and transactions, investigate and resolve discrepancies, and prepare periodic payroll reports. The role also involves processing out-of-cycle payroll checks and participating in payroll and 401K audits. The qualified candidate will oversee the calculation of wages, overtime, and deductions to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, ensuring that payments and government reports are disbursed timely and accurately. This position demands a high level of commitment to the agency's philosophy and requires the ability to work well with a diverse range of individuals while contributing to team efforts.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in business or related field
  • Minimum of two years direct payroll experience
  • Related experience of 3 to 5 years will be considered in place of degree
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented
  • Ability to prioritize work
  • Self-initiated with an open, direct interpersonal style
  • Ability to work well with a large variety of people
  • Organized, efficient, and flexible
