About the position

The Payroll Specialist position at Southwest Healthcare is a temporary role focused on the accurate preparation, documentation, and distribution of payroll, tax filing, and audits. This full-time position requires a high level of accuracy in processing bi-weekly payroll and managing payroll corrections, garnishments, and compliance with government regulations. The role is essential for ensuring that payroll operations run smoothly and efficiently within the healthcare system.

Responsibilities

  • Processes bi-weekly payroll with a high accuracy rate according to schedule.
  • Thoroughly understands the Time and Attendance system, as well as the Payroll system.
  • Processes special and termination checks when required and ensures that they are ready by the prescribed deadline and in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Processes payroll corrections including incorrect or missed punches, direct deposit rejections, lost checks, and stop pays.
  • Reviews the computation of pay and ensures the company payroll policies are in accordance with government regulations.
  • Responds to and resolves any inquiries regarding paychecks and payroll information.
  • Responsible for setting up and managing agency garnishments according to the orders received.
  • Verifies the accuracy of the quarterly and annual tax reports for submission to the appropriate organization.
  • Audits payroll and tax information as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Associate's degree from an accredited College or University in related field preferred.
  • Two (2) to Three (3) years of experience in payroll required, acute care experience preferred.
  • Kronos experience preferred.
  • Payroll Certification preferred.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and ensures compliance with the Joint Commission and Title 22 standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to set priorities and appropriately organize workload and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to relate to clinical personnel and medical staff, as well as ability to interact well with the public.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
