About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Daniels Sharpsmart Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting the Payroll and Benefits Administrator by managing bi-weekly payroll processing, handling payroll-related queries, and maintaining employee personnel files. This position is essential for ensuring accurate payroll operations and compliance with regulations, while also serving as a resource for employee benefits inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Process multi-state payroll on multiple pay schedules using Paylocity.
  • Manage vacation and sick time accruals in the payroll system and ensure all time off requests are processed in line with the payroll cycle.
  • Process garnishments, child support orders, and tax levies.
  • Complete all incoming employment verifications and work with the Business Partner to gather and submit employee record requests, subpoenas, and other documentation requests.
  • Process new hires, terminations, and employee changes in the payroll system and maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel files.
  • Support in health, ancillary, and retirement benefits including enrollments and terminations.
  • Assist with end-of-year compliance for payroll and W2 compliance.
  • Perform general filing and administrative duties related to payroll and benefits management.
  • Process required documents through payroll and carriers to ensure accurate record keeping and payroll deductions.
  • Serve as a resource to employees by answering benefits-related questions; liaise with benefits brokers and carriers to maintain vendor relationships.
  • Support with monthly benefits reconciliation ensuring accurate billing/invoicing and benefit coverage.
  • Support with timely unemployment claims and COBRA processing.
  • Prepare any payroll and benefits-related reports.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of proven Payroll experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; BSc/BA in business, accounting or relevant field is a plus.
  • Trustworthy with attention to confidentiality.
  • Outstanding organizational ability with great attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Exquisite math and numerical skills.
  • Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices.
  • Knowledge of legislation and regulations of the field.
  • Proficient in MS Office and good knowledge of relevant software (e.g. Paylocity) and databases.
