The Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards. The Payroll Specialist will be tasked with collecting, calculating, and entering payroll data into the payroll system. This includes processing employee data such as new hires, terminations, changes in employment status, earnings, and withholdings. The role also involves preparing detailed reports that summarize earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages. A critical aspect of this position is balancing earnings and deduction totals, correcting any discrepancies that may arise, and resolving payroll discrepancies through careful analysis of information. In addition to these responsibilities, the Payroll Specialist will provide essential payroll information by responding to inquiries and requests from both the Payroll Manager and employees. Maintaining confidentiality and protecting payroll operations is paramount. The Payroll Specialist will also support the payroll and finance team with special projects, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll department.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data into the payroll system.
  • Process employee data including new hires, terminations, changes, earnings, and withholdings.
  • Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
  • Balance earnings and deduction totals and correct out of balance conditions.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Provide payroll information by answering questions and requests from employees and management.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Support the payroll and finance team with special projects.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in payroll or related field.
  • High school diploma.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree.
  • APA Certification.
  • Experience in PeopleSoft or Kronos Payroll system.
