About the position

Premier Medical Resources is seeking a dedicated Payroll Specialist to join our team in Houston, Texas. This full-time position is integral to our healthcare management operations, where we strive to leverage the expertise and skillset of our employees to drive quality in all we do. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing all aspects of payroll processing, reporting, job costing, and ensuring compliance with wage and hour laws. This role requires a strong understanding of payroll tax regulations and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. In this role, the Payroll Specialist will accurately administer bi-weekly payroll activities for two entities, which includes time and labor entry, processing tax documents, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The successful candidate will transmit payroll wages for direct deposit via ACH, resolve payroll discrepancies, and assist employees with payroll-related queries. Additionally, the Payroll Specialist will train and support users in the creation and maintenance of schedules and bi-weekly timekeeping, while also developing and maintaining processes to enhance payroll efficiency. The Payroll Specialist will prepare periodic payroll reports, compile key operational payroll metrics, and keep abreast of current payroll tax laws and regulations. This position also involves monitoring HR and payroll data in the HRIS system, reviewing new hire data for accuracy, and maintaining child support and garnishment information in compliance with applicable laws. The role includes assisting with quarterly and year-end payroll processes, ensuring accuracy in health plan deductions, and supporting annual audits related to 401(k), benefits, and workers' compensation. The Payroll Specialist will also provide information for various government reports and filings, and respond to requests for Verification of Employment.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately administer bi-weekly payroll activities for two entities.
  • Process time and labor entries and tax documents, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Transmit payroll wages for direct deposit via ACH to banking institutions.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies and assist employees with payroll queries.
  • Train and support users in the creation and maintenance of schedules and bi-weekly timekeeping.
  • Develop, recommend, and maintain processes to ensure payroll efficiency.
  • Prepare periodic payroll reports and compile key operational payroll metrics.
  • Keep abreast of current payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Monitor HR and payroll data in the HRIS system for accuracy.
  • Review, interpret, enter, and maintain child support and garnishment information.
  • Assist with quarterly and year-end payroll processes, including audits and W-2 processing.
  • Ensure accuracy of health plan deductions in collaboration with benefits team.
  • Assist with annual audits including 401(k), benefits, and workers' compensation.
  • Provide information needed for various government reports and filings.
  • Respond timely to requests for Verification of Employment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years of experience in payroll with a mid-size or larger organization.
  • Strong knowledge of basic payroll, tax, and wage laws, particularly Texas payroll laws.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient in HRIS/payroll software programs.
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
