The Payroll Specialist position at a large accounting firm in Everett is designed for an experienced professional responsible for processing multi-state payroll for various companies. The role requires a strong understanding of payroll regulations and the ability to manage payroll operations efficiently and accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing timecards for accuracy and completeness
  • Entering hours, deductions, garnishments, etc.
  • Setting up payroll item codes
  • Setting up direct deposit for both company and employees
  • Tracking accruals for holiday, vacation, sick time, and attendance
  • Following up with payroll companies to facilitate payroll tax corrections as needed
  • Processing payments, adjustments, special pay, and vacation pay
  • Validating payroll for accuracy and completeness
  • Handling payroll processing and reporting, reconciling, and payroll tax filings for all state and federal tax agencies on time
  • Providing new hire, salary, benefit changes, and terminations
  • Processing and calculating pay upon termination
  • Processing manual checks including final checks as needed
  • Assisting with answering and researching complex payroll-related issues with employees, human resources, accounting, and legal
  • Handling personal and private information with discretion and confidentiality

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience processing multi-state payroll
  • Proficiency in payroll platforms such as ADP, Paychex, Gusto, Paylocity
  • Strong understanding of state and federal tax regulations
  • Ability to manage multiple payrolls on a weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly basis
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication skills to interact with employees and other departments
  • Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
