About the position

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing payroll for both exempt and non-exempt employees across multiple states. This role requires a high level of accuracy, compliance with payroll regulations, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll for a large, multi-state employee base, including exempt, non-exempt, and freelance employees
• Ensure accurate payroll calculations, including regular wages, overtime, bonuses, and deductions
• Manage payroll taxes, garnishments, and benefit contributions
• Maintain and audit payroll records to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws
• Process new hires, terminations, and employee changes (pay rate updates, benefits adjustments, etc.)
• Assist with year-end payroll tasks, including W-2 preparation and distribution
• Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees in a professional and timely manner
• Reconcile payroll reports and collaborate with accounting for month-end close processes
• Work closely with HR and benefits teams to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance
• Stay updated on payroll regulations and best practices

Requirements

• 3+ years of payroll experience, preferably in the media, entertainment, or related industries
• Experience processing multi-state payroll for 500+ employees
• Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paycom, Workday, or similar)
• Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, and tax compliance
• Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs)
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage confidential information with discretion
• Effective communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
