About the position

The Payroll Specialist position is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt role that involves the preparation of computerized payroll and assisting the Controller in various duties. The position requires a strong understanding of payroll processes and accounting principles, as well as proficiency in relevant software and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate pay according to hours worked including various leaves and overtime.
  • Collect and verify timesheets for accuracy.
  • Process payroll and transmit electronically to Paylocity for preparation of checks and direct deposits.
  • Maintain all payroll operations according to company policies.
  • Prepare monthly payroll and accounting journal entries, including various Balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Train all new employees on the use of Paylocity.
  • Calculate and administer retirement contributions.
  • Calculate and administer taxable fringe benefits.
  • Process administrative deposits and back-up for recording wire deposits to the general ledger.
  • Calculate and file monthly sales tax returns.
  • Serve as back-up for various aspects of purchasing, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Perform all other job duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field of study and two (2) years experience in a payroll or accounting role preferred.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles, relevant legislature, policies and regulations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in data collection, entry and reporting with attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • A minimum of two years payroll experience, required.
  • Experience using Paylocity for payroll functions, preferred.
  • Experience with employee benefits and other accounting functions, preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently and resolve complex issues in a time-sensitive environment.
