About the position

The Payroll Specialist at The Goodman Group is responsible for managing the payroll process across the company's various entities, ensuring that payroll is processed accurately, timely, and in compliance with regulations. This role serves as a key point of contact for employees regarding payroll inquiries and provides support related to the ADP system, contributing to a collaborative and service-oriented team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and respond to Help Desk emails and calls, delegating and tracking the status of tickets.
  • Support field employees through problem-solving processes, following standard Help Desk procedures.
  • Identify and escalate urgent situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Recommend modifications or improvements to procedures and notify leadership of recurring issues.
  • Process assigned payrolls confidentially, accurately, and in a timely manner, taking ownership of payroll responsibilities.
  • Manage workflow processes to ensure timely and accurate payroll completion.
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports.
  • Process new hires from the HR Applicant Tracking System.
  • Ensure compliance with garnishment calculations and requirements.
  • Handle employee questions and concerns regarding payroll discrepancies promptly.
  • Assist in implementing payroll processing efficiencies and act as a technical resource for others.
  • Administer the electronic timekeeping system, ensuring adherence to FLSA and monitoring timesheet submissions.
  • Make determinations regarding wage and hour law applications and prepare periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions as requested.
  • Process employment verifications and respond to unemployment inquiries.

Requirements

  • 2 year college degree or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of full payroll processing experience.
  • Experience with ADP WFN and NewGen preferred, especially with multi-company codes and processing over 1000 employees.
  • Knowledge of federal and state tax jurisdiction rules affecting payroll preparation.
  • Experience with processing multi-state payrolls.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills for planning and accomplishing goals.
  • Excellent project and time management skills, especially under critical deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and thorough in work.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Experience with payroll processing efficiencies.
  • Familiarity with policy and procedure documentation.
