About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Lutheran Social Service MN is responsible for managing all payroll and payroll tax functions, ensuring compliance with payroll regulations, and providing guidance on complex payroll issues. This role involves processing payroll, handling adjustments, and addressing employee inquiries, all while maintaining a supportive and positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Processing daily payroll activities and all aspects of pay period processing.
  • Transmitting bi-weekly payroll.
  • Processing payroll adjustments and special out-of-cycle items.
  • Ensuring timely processing of PTO requests and PTO termination requests.
  • Paying federal and state taxes and uploading payroll invoices to SharePoint.
  • Monitoring payroll dashboards and updating direct deposit/W4 forms.
  • Updating and adjusting timecards with instructions.
  • Approving and exporting timecards from CRM to GP.
  • Assisting with payroll-related questions via email and phone.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
  • 2 - 3 years of payroll experience required, including experience with garnishments, benefit deduction reconciliation, and tax filing.
  • CPP/FPC certification preferred or willingness to work towards certification.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented to complete work correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills (listening, speaking, and writing).
  • Strong people skills.
