About the position

Concern Housing is seeking a Rep Payee Specialist to provide essential financial management services to program participants. This role involves representing and advocating for participants' interests with the Social Security Administration (SSA) in all financial matters, including the payment of bills and the reduction of arrears. The Rep Payee Specialist will also serve as a backup for the Accounts Receivable (AR) Bookkeeper as needed. The position is full-time, located in Medford, NY, and operates Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. The salary for this position is $60,000. In this role, the Rep Payee Specialist will be responsible for submitting necessary paperwork to the SSA and the New York State Office of Temporary & Disability Assistance (OTDA) to establish Representative Payee status. They will also notify these agencies of any changes in participant circumstances that could affect their benefits. The Specialist will complete the annual SSA Representative Payee Report requirements and file these reports electronically on the SSA website. Additionally, they will communicate with banks regarding the opening and closing of all representative payee accounts, ensuring that all SSA and OTDA deposits are reviewed and accurately recorded in participant accounts. The Rep Payee Specialist will generate all disbursements from participant accounts, which include rent payments, bill payments, and personal needs allowances (PNAs). They will work closely with program participants to help them budget their funds responsibly, which may involve meeting with them to discuss their financial status and budget plans. The Specialist will also assist participants in opening trusts when necessary and will take on other bookkeeping responsibilities as needed. It is essential for the Rep Payee Specialist to remain current with all agency-required compliance documents and training to ensure adherence to regulations and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Submit paperwork to Social Security Administration (SSA) and NYS Office of Temporary & Disability Assistance (OTDA) for Representative Payee status.
  • Notify SSA & OTDA of any participant changes that would affect their benefits.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years experience working in an entitlements or benefits position.
