About the position

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our Payroll Team. This position is crucial for maintaining payroll information and ensuring that all payroll processes are executed accurately and efficiently. As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for collecting, calculating, and entering payroll data, processing onboarding and offboarding of employees, and resolving any discrepancies related to benefits and payroll. You will also support payroll inquiries and requests, ensuring that all operations adhere to established policies and procedures. Confidentiality is paramount in this role, as you will handle sensitive information related to employee payroll and benefits. Responsibilities

  • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data.
  • Process onboarding and offboarding of teammates within the HR Information System.
  • Resolve benefit and payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Support payroll questions and requests.
  • Be a key player with payroll operations by understanding and following policies and procedures; and reporting needed changes.
  • Provide confidentiality on all levels.
  • Process payroll for multiple locations.
  • Communicate with a variety of teams.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.

Requirements

  • One year of coursework or training in personnel management, business administration, public administration or office/administrative or two years of related experience.
  • Experience with KRONOS, E1, and Workday is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience processing payroll for a large number of employees.
