About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Aston Carter is responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll process for multi-state payrolls, ensuring compliance with prevailing wage laws and handling union payrolls as necessary. This role requires a deep understanding of payroll operations, starting from employee set-up to the issuance of paychecks, along with all relevant reporting and filings. The Payroll Specialist will review and reconcile project timecards prior to the weekly pay run, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and regulations. In addition to processing payroll, the Payroll Specialist will prepare and review weekly payroll data, including data entry of payroll information and associated reporting as needed. The role also involves preparing daily off-cycle checks, which may include retroactive pay adjustments. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for researching and resolving complex payroll inquiries from project teams, business services areas, or individual team members, providing support via phone or email. Acting as a liaison for project teams, the Payroll Specialist will facilitate communication and ensure that payroll-related issues are addressed promptly. Furthermore, the Payroll Specialist will handle the set-up of salary and pay-related updates, as well as the termination of craft payroll team members. Mentoring and providing training for payroll associates and administrators will also be part of the responsibilities. Additional payroll duties may include managing unemployment earnings, union reporting and reconciliation, garnishments, payroll tax processing, and child support. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance in payroll processing.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of payroll processing experience.
  • Experience with multi-state payrolls is a must.
  • Understanding of prevailing wage laws and union payrolls.
