About the position

As a Payroll Specialist at Sukut Construction, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a high volume of employees across multiple states. This position is essential for maintaining compliance with union contracts and payroll regulations, contributing to the overall success of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Process high-volume payroll (600+) specific to union contracts across multiple states including California, Nevada, and Arizona.
  • Prepare monthly union reports.
  • Perform garnishments and deductions.
  • Prepare weekly tax payments.
  • Review time sheets and wage computations to identify and reconcile pay discrepancies.
  • Process manual checks as needed: adjustments, shortages, and layoffs.
  • Review of and compliance with all EDD audits.
  • Respond to payroll related inquiries.
  • Work with a high volume of paperwork and confidential information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years proven experience as a payroll specialist, payroll clerk, or in a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of payroll principles, laws, and regulations (e.g., FLSA, tax regulations).
  • Experience with payroll software.
  • Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills; ability to discreetly handle sensitive, confidential, and time-sensitive duties while maintaining a solid customer service orientation.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel, with the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets.
  • Excellent numerical and data entry skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve payroll discrepancies efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree or higher (equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered).
  • Experience working with Viewpoint Vista software and B2W software.
  • Union payroll processing experience / knowledge of union payroll processing and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Familiarity with multi-state payroll processing.
  • Previous work in the construction industry.
