About the position

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing all payroll processes, ensuring the accuracy and timely payment of employee wages. This role involves handling employee data, processing timesheets, and maintaining payroll records, with a strong emphasis on attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Enters, maintains, and processes information in the payroll system including hourly rates, commissions, bonuses, and time worked.
• Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other contributions.
• Manages electronic timekeeping systems or manual timesheets and reviews them for accuracy.
• Enters total payable hours into the payroll software system and reviews data for accuracy.
• Issues or reissues physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors.
• Records all federal and state payroll tax deposits.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist.
• Strong knowledge of technical accounting principles.
• Familiarity with governmental accounting practices is a plus.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate timesheets accurately.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software.
• Associated Degree or higher preferred.
• At least two years of related experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is a plus.
• Experience with governmental accounting.
