About the position

The Payroll Specialist, Garnishment at Carrols Corporation is responsible for managing the garnishment process within the Payroll Department. This role involves interpreting garnishment orders, setting them up in the PeopleSoft system, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The specialist will also educate staff on garnishment procedures and maintain accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Interpret the intent of the garnishment submitted to the Payroll Department.
• Set up the garnishment properly in PeopleSoft System.
• Complete forms and interrogatories related to garnishments.
• Maintain appropriate spreadsheets to track garnishments.
• Create and maintain operating procedures and documentation for garnishment processes.
• Work independently to manage garnishment tasks.
• Understand and apply federal and state garnishment rules to orders accordingly.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with courts and law offices regarding garnishments.
• Educate store locations, DMs, and field HR on proper receipt and handling of garnishment and child support orders.
• Open mail and disperse non-payroll mail to appropriate departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience in accounting or payroll is desired.
• Associate's degree in Payroll or Legal experience is desired.
• Knowledge of rules, regulations, and procedures governing multi-state garnishments is desired.
• Familiarity with court processes and ability to respond with legitimacy is desired.
• Familiarity with PeopleSoft is desired.
• Experience with large payroll in a multistate environment is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in the quick service or fast food restaurant industry.
• Entry-level experience in payroll or garnishment processes.
