About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Modivcare is responsible for processing company payroll, ensuring accurate calculations of wages, tax withholdings, and company deductions while maintaining compliance with federal and state laws. This role involves preparing reports, maintaining payroll records, and performing payroll accounting responsibilities, contributing to the overall efficiency and accuracy of payroll operations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares statistical reports on employee pay, commissions, bonuses, vacation and sick leave, disability and workers compensation leave, taxes and withholdings.
  • Generates and responds to inquiries regarding paychecks and withholding.
  • Maintains employee payroll records, ledgers, and files.
  • Ensures payroll tasks are performed for on- and off-cycle payroll processing.
  • Performs bi-weekly and monthly payroll accounting responsibilities.
  • Tracks and deducts all garnishments and other special payroll deductions.
  • Reviews payroll reporting and ensures accurate filing with appropriate sources.
  • Prepares audit reports and supporting documentation and verifies authenticity and completeness of data.
  • Completes post payroll audits and reporting, prepares metrics, and tracks issues.
  • Reviews and approves bank transactions, including stop payments, direct deposit recalls, and check inquiries.
  • Ensures setup of state tax codes for all employees.
  • Performs all duties maintaining compliance with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and other regulations/legislation.
  • Documents and maintains department job aids and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); may train payroll department staff.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues with payroll and timekeeping systems.
  • Interprets pay policies (e.g., vacation, LOA, disability, workers compensation, union contracts, government regulations, withholding exemptions, etc.).
  • Verifies compliance with federal and state payroll requirements; stays current with changes in the law.
  • Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.
  • Participates in other projects or duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Five (5) plus years of experience in payroll administration or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Experience using ADP strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the general practices of payroll administration.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and expert/accurate data entry skills.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Able to maintain the confidential nature of employee and company information.
  • Well organized with the ability to handle multiple projects, ongoing tasks, and unplanned or urgent requests.
  • Operates with a calm sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills including oral, written, and presentation.
