About the position

As a Payroll Specialist, you will be an integral part of our finance team, responsible for ensuring the accurate processing and recording of payroll for our employees. This role is essential in providing timely and accurate financial information and participating in daily payroll processing activities. In this position, you will review entered and imported time in our payroll software to ensure accuracy, manage workflow to guarantee that all payroll transactions are processed accurately and on time, and reconcile payroll prior to transmission. You will also be responsible for understanding the proper taxation of employer-paid benefits, processing garnishment calculations, and ensuring compliance with payroll regulations. Additionally, you will handle year-end reporting tasks such as W-2 and W-2c forms, provide financial and operational reporting as needed, and offer backup support within the payroll department and other accounting functions when necessary. This is a full-time position based in our Kalispell, MT office, and it requires a commitment to on-site work. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll processing, particularly in the construction industry, and will possess excellent communication and analytical skills. Responsibilities

  • Review entered and imported time in payroll software for accuracy.
  • Perform routine and non-routine payroll department operations.
  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports.
  • Understand proper taxation of employer-paid benefits.
  • Process correct garnishment calculations and compliance.
  • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting (W-2, W-2c, etc.).
  • Provide financial and operational reporting as needed.
  • Provide backup within the payroll department and other accounting functions when necessary.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of payroll support strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Davis Bacon Payroll processing preferred.
  • Construction experience preferred but not necessary.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to deliver on critical deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices.
  • Good relationship-building ability and be a team player.
  • High degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material.
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of management.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office.
