About the position

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing all payroll processes, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of employee payments. This role involves handling employee data, processing timesheets, computing wages, and managing payroll deductions. The ideal candidate will possess strong numeracy skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively.

Responsibilities

• Enters, maintains, and processes information in the payroll system including hourly rates, commissions, bonuses, and time worked.
• Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other contributions.
• Manages electronic timekeeping systems or manual timesheets and reviews them for accuracy.
• Enters total payable hours into the payroll software system and reviews data for accuracy.
• Issues or reissues physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors.
• Records all federal and state payroll tax deposits.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate timesheets.
• Ability to convert minutes to decimal calculations for payroll.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
• Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software.
• Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist.
• A CPP certification is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of technical accounting principles.
• Familiarity with governmental accounting practices is a plus.
• Proficiency in using accounting software programs.
