About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Ohio State Waterproofing is a temporary, part-time role focused on managing payroll processes for the company. This position involves collecting and entering payroll data, processing employee changes, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing customer service to employees. The role emphasizes a culture of continuous improvement and learning within a supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, compile and enter payroll data into payroll system
  • Process new employees, transfers, promotions, and terminations
  • Process garnishment calculations and reporting compliance
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission including hours balancing and thorough payroll register review
  • Manage timekeeping system including export of data to payroll system
  • Load all import files from HR/Payroll
  • Provide customer service to all employees
  • Investigate and correct payroll discrepancies and errors
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and guidelines
  • Understand proper taxation of federal, state and local taxes
  • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary (W-2, 1099)
  • Perform periodic audits to ensure complete and total accuracy with all payroll activities
  • Create and maintain an annual payroll processing calendar

Requirements

  • Experience with payroll systems, preferably Paychex Flex
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles and internal controls
  • Strong work ethic and team player mentality
  • Sound PC skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • High level of integrity to handle confidential information
  • Solid decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Positive and personable demeanor with great customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to stay organized
  • Ability to work under stressful circumstances while maintaining decorum

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience processing payroll for 3-5 years
  • Familiarity with Timekeeping software
