About the position

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing and processing in-house payroll for a busy team. This role requires ensuring compliance with California wage and hour laws, handling tax deposits and filings, and maintaining accurate payroll records. The position is a short-term contract based in San Diego, CA, and is available immediately.

Responsibilities

• Manage and process in-house payroll efficiently
• Ensure compliance with California wage and hour laws and other relevant regulations
• Handle semi-monthly tax deposits and quarterly filings related to payroll taxes
• Conduct payroll reconciliation using Excel and other relevant software
• Manage garnishments, wages, and other payroll functions
• Utilize payroll software for efficient payment processing and record keeping
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of time sheets
• Utilize Microsoft Excel for various accounting functions and data management
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and external parties as required
• Carry out tax accounting related to payroll and reconcile any discrepancies.

Requirements

• Proficiency in accounting functions and payroll
• Expertise in payroll software and Microsoft Excel
• Demonstrated experience with payment processing, wages, and reconciliations
• Familiarity with tax accounting and compliance procedures
• Experience in handling timesheets, garnishments, and other payroll functions
• Ability to ensure accuracy and integrity of all payroll-related data
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information
• Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Knowledge of current payroll-related laws and regulations.
