The Payroll Specialist at Charter Schools USA is a vital role responsible for the accurate maintenance of payroll records for assigned locations. This position involves a variety of tasks that ensure payroll is processed accurately and in a timely manner. The Payroll Specialist will manage workflow to guarantee that all payrolls are executed correctly, which includes developing, reviewing, and running audit reports both before and after payroll processing. A thorough understanding of federal and state withholding laws is essential, as the role requires processing correct garnishment calculations and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Additionally, the Payroll Specialist will handle compliance for unclaimed property payroll checks and develop ad hoc financial and operational reports as needed. This position may also involve other duties as assigned, reflecting the dynamic nature of the role within the organization. The Payroll Specialist must possess a strong work ethic and be a team player, demonstrating a high degree of professionalism. The ability to handle sensitive and confidential material with discretion is crucial. Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary to effectively interact with various levels of management. The role also requires decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills, along with organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing abilities. The work environment is typical of an office setting, and while no significant physical exertion is required, the role may involve light work, such as moving objects weighing up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently. Travel may be required within or outside of the state, adding another layer of responsibility to the position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage workflow to ensure all payrolls are processed accurately and timely
  • Develop, review and run audit reports before and after payroll processing
  • Understand proper taxation of applicable federal and state withholding laws
  • Process correct garnishment calculations and compliance
  • Perform compliances for unclaimed property payroll checks
  • Develop and process ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of ADP Software preferred but not required
  • Minimum 2 years' experience processing payroll
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations
  • Strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel
  • Strong customer service skills
