About the position

Our very well-established and long-time Food Processing client is partnering with Staffing Partners in search of an experienced Payroll Specialist for this immediate full-time career opportunity. The Payroll Specialist plays a crucial role in facilitating human resource processes across all business locations. This position is responsible for administering employee health and welfare plans and acts as the liaison between employees and insurance providers. The Payroll Specialist resolves benefits-related issues, processes payroll, and fosters positive employee relations. It is essential that payroll and benefits plans are administered in compliance with federal and state regulations, ensuring that all plan provisions are adhered to. Additionally, this role provides administrative support to the human resource function, which includes record-keeping, file maintenance, and HRIS entry. The Payroll Specialist will administer health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations. They will process required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions. Responsibilities also include processing bi-weekly payrolls, managing monthly payroll journals, and performing customer service functions by addressing employee requests and questions. The role requires completing Forms I-9, verifying I-9 documentation, and maintaining I-9 files. The Payroll Specialist will also process new-employee background checks, schedule drug tests and physicals, reconcile benefits statements, and process monthly invoices. Conducting audits of payroll, benefits, or other HR programs and recommending corrective actions are also part of the job. The Payroll Specialist assists with the recruitment process, tracks candidate statuses, and schedules orientation meetings as requested by the Director of HR. Other clerical functions include making photocopies, mailing, scanning, and emailing documents, as well as preparing new-employee files and packets.

Responsibilities

  • Administers health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
  • Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
  • Processes bi-weekly payrolls and monthly payroll journals.
  • Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
  • Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation, and maintains I-9 files.
  • Processes new-employee background checks and schedules drug tests and physicals.
  • Reconciles benefits statements and processes monthly invoices.
  • Conducts audits of payroll, benefits, or other HR programs and recommends corrective action.
  • Assists with the processing of terminations and preparation of the union increase process.
  • Tracks the status of candidates in the HR drive and responds with follow-up letters at the end of the recruiting process.
  • Schedules and conducts orientation meetings requested by the Director of HR.
  • Performs clerical functions such as making photocopies, mailing, scanning, and emailing documents.
  • Prepares new-employee files and packets.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in human resources or related field and/or 2 years of equivalent experience.
  • At least two years of payroll processing and journaling experience.
  • ADP experience required.
  • Working understanding of human resource principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
