About the position

As a Payroll Specialist at Alvarez & Marsal, you will play a crucial role in managing payroll for our global team, which includes colleagues from the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions. This full-time position can be based in either our New York City or Tampa office. Your expertise in payroll processing and customer service will significantly impact the professionals we serve and the cross-functional teams we collaborate with. You will be responsible for processing multi-state semi-monthly payroll using Workday, ensuring that all employee salaries, draws, reported hours, bonuses, severance pay, deductions, and garnishments are accurately entered. In this role, you will also research and analyze data to address employee inquiries and discrepancies, providing exceptional client experiences through strong customer service. You will prepare and resolve all taxable wage adjustments for periodic, quarterly, and year-end processing, ensuring compliance with all statutory payroll-related tax filings and payments. Keeping abreast of regulatory changes affecting payroll will be essential to maintain payroll accuracy. Additionally, you will engage with various technological enhancements aimed at driving greater efficiencies and automation in payroll processes. Your responsibilities will also include preparing payroll reconciliations after each pay period, at quarter-end, and at year-end to ensure tax accuracy. You will assist with Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking Workday testing as needed, and actively contribute to identifying and presenting process improvements. This position requires a strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process multi-state semi-monthly payroll using Workday.
  • Research and analyze data to answer employee questions and discrepancies.
  • Ensure accurate entry of employee salaries, draws, reported hours, bonuses, severance pay, deductions, and garnishments.
  • Provide exceptional client experience through strong customer service in response to inquiries from employees, internal departments, and outside vendors related to payroll inquiries.
  • Prepare and resolve all taxable wages adjustments for periodic, quarterly, and year-end processing.
  • Assist with all Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking Workday testing as needed.
  • Prepare payroll reconciliations after each pay period, at quarter-end, and at year-end to ensure taxes are accurate.
  • Ensure compliance of all statutory payroll-related tax filings and payments.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes affecting payroll to ensure payroll accuracy.
  • Engage and adapt to various technological enhancements to drive greater efficiencies and automation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in payroll for the US, multi-State and multi-entity payroll operations.
  • Strong understanding of HR & Payroll related issues.
  • Associate/Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • Intermediate Excel skills (Pivot, VLOOKUP, Formulas).
  • Proven experience with HRIS/Workday and other Payroll systems.
  • Proactive approach towards issues.
  • Ability to take ownership of payroll processes and reconciliation.
