About the position

The Payroll Specialist/Human Resources Assistant plays a crucial role within the HR department, providing essential support to employees and both global and local HR teams. This position is responsible for managing payroll and benefits, assisting with general HR duties, and contributing to special projects. The ideal candidate should have a keen attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and maintain confidentiality while thriving in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the onboarding process for new employees, including employment contracts and payroll withholding.
  • Coordinate quarterly New Hire Orientation Day, tracking attendance and overseeing activities.
  • Prepare and process payroll semi-monthly, including calculating commissions and processing expense reimbursements.
  • Register the company for payroll tax and unemployment tax in various states.
  • Maintain employee enrollment in health care and 401k plans, assisting with open enrollment periods.
  • Manage FMLA and COBRA eligibility and documentation for employees.
  • Perform HRIS data entry and maintain confidential personnel files.
  • Assist employees and supervisors with HR policies and procedures interpretation.
  • Respond to reference checks and verifications of employment status.
  • Assist in responding to unemployment claims and maintain organizational charts.
  • Work with HR Manager to ensure compliance with local labor laws and assist with off-boarding processes.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in an HR environment, specifically in payroll processing.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with HR systems.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong affinity for numbers.
  • Discretion, diplomacy, and a flexible attitude under pressure.
  • Friendly, personable, and approachable with multitasking abilities.
  • Good understanding of employment law is a plus.
