About the position

York Hospital is seeking a dedicated Payroll Specialist to join our Finance Team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll for our staff. This includes processing approved payroll adjustments, maintaining appropriate documentation, and calculating all wage garnishments. You will also manage the regular preparation of relevant reports, including weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports, as well as ad-hoc reports as requested. Compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws is a critical aspect of this position, and you will be expected to investigate, validate, and resolve any payroll discrepancies in a timely and professional manner. Collaboration with the Human Resources department is essential to ensure accurate employee data, benefits, and payroll information. You will monitor the payroll email inbox daily to provide timely and accurate responses to employee and customer inquiries. Additionally, you will develop and maintain a relationship with the payroll service provider to resolve issues and create system enhancements that will help produce accurate payrolls. This position may also involve performing other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Finance Team at York Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll

  • Calculate and process all wage garnishments
  • Manage regular preparation of relevant reports, including weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports
  • Manage preparation of ad-hoc reports as requested timely and in format requested
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local tax laws
  • Investigate, validate and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely and professional manner
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate employee data, benefit and payroll information
  • Monitor the payroll email inbox daily to provide timely and accurate responses to employee and customer inquiries
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with the payroll service provider to resolve issues and create system enhancements to produce accurate payrolls
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting preferred
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) desired
  • 5+ years progressive payroll experience within a corporate payroll department; healthcare setting is a plus
  • Previous experience with Ceridian/Dayforce preferred
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws and compliance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
