The Payroll Specialist maintains a base of payroll clients, ensuring that their payroll, Human Resource, and employee benefit service needs are met effectively. Daily communication with clients is essential, as the specialist will follow a set schedule to obtain necessary payroll data, which includes salary adjustments, special payments, tax allocations, and employee deductions or adjustments. In addition to data entry, the Payroll Specialist keys all payroll-related information required to process payroll accurately and meet appointment schedules. Providing quality client service is paramount, as it directly impacts client retention rates. The specialist must stay informed about the payroll processing system and any changes in wage and tax laws to build a trusted relationship with clients. This role also involves corresponding with federal, state, and local tax agencies on behalf of clients to resolve any problems that may arise. Maintaining organized client files is crucial for ensuring efficient operations and improving client service. The Payroll Specialist is expected to research and resolve client and system problems to guarantee accurate payroll reports and tax returns. Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with clients, agencies, and coworkers is essential to promote a positive quality service image. Additionally, the Payroll Specialist may participate in conducting branch training sessions to empower and develop employees. Continuous self-study modules are encouraged to advance to a Senior Payroll Specialist position.
